Age Determinations

After much discussion and deliberation, AYSO has moved to a new way to determine which group your son or daughter will be playing in. For Membership year 2021, the age that your player will be at the END of 2022 (yes, I typed 2022) is how players will be sorted into their age divisions. Instead of U8 or U14 (under 8, under 14), the classifications will be 8U or 14U (8 and under, 14 and under). This new way of classifying helps to balance out the 'playing field' so that teams have an opportunity to really develop players without the pressure of that boy or girl that "just squeaked in under the birthday rule" and is bigger and stronger than most of the other players. The RC, yours truly, relies heavily on the reports that coaches submit at the end of the previous membership year to help in the sorting of players. Obviously we do not want all of the most skilled players on the same team. We want balanced teams and that is one of the philosophies of AYSO. Once you understand the how and why, the rest will be up to the players.
